Whyalla may cut from six footy clubs to four as steel jobs go

Whyalla's six-club Football League may drop to four or five sides as steelworks jobs go. North Whyalla official Greg Flanegan says the town cannot sustain six clubs. The blast furnace will not restart. The direct workforce falls from 1,700 to 1,200, plus 300 contractors affected. SANFL offers two merger paths: absorption or a new combined club.
