Sandwich terns rebound to 756 pairs at Pagham Harbour after bird flu wipeout

Sandwich terns at Pagham Harbour in West Sussex produced 570 fledglings — young birds able to fly — in summer 2026 from 756 breeding pairs, after bird flu wiped the colony to zero in 2022. The Guardian reports it as one of the largest colonies ever recorded in the Solent region.
