Eight homes were reported burning in San Juan Capistrano on Oct. 16 as the Norte fire spread in Orange County. Flames reached other backyards. The fire, which erupted that afternoon and grew past 465 acres, forced mandatory evacuations in San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, and nine nearby schools dismissed early.
