Brethren leader denies role in Liberal election campaigning

Bruce Hales, leader of the Exclusive Brethren church group, told a parliamentary inquiry on 16 October 2026 he had 'no knowledge' of members campaigning for the Liberals at the 2025 federal election and 'no part in planning them'. MPs asked about polling booth volunteers and 'Make Australia smile again' signs.
