Helix Carbon pitches furnace retrofit to cut iron costs $14 a ton
Helix Carbon pitched a blast-furnace retrofit at Startup Battlefield in San Francisco on Oct. 13. The Massachusetts startup uses an electrolyzer, a device that splits molecules with electricity, to turn waste CO2 into carbon monoxide. Replacing 33% of coke, the coal-based fuel, with that recycled gas would save $14 per ton of iron, it says.
