Wix's Base44 Moves Custom AI Model Into Production for App Building

Base44 deployed Base-1, its custom language model, in late June 2026, roughly a year after Wix acquired the company for $80 million. It's the first app-creation platform built on a proprietary model rather than third-party APIs. Custom models can optimize specifically for code generation—keeping multiple files coherent, following framework conventions—more directly than general-purpose AI.
