Ted Cruz blocked US AI deepfakes bill despite near-unanimous Senate support

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) blocked the NO FAKES Act after Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) brought it to the Senate floor. RIAA chief Mitch Glazier told Billboard On the Record the bill drew nearly universal support. Cruz objected over insufficient exceptions for satire or political commentary. Glazier said it could still pass by unanimous consent in the 2026 lame-duck period.
