China Keeps Its Own AI Talent, but Foreign Hires Lag

China is keeping its own AI researchers but struggling to attract researchers from abroad, in a study described Oct. 6 by The New York Times. It clarifies earlier 2025 figures, cited by the New York Post from Carnegie, that China hired 41% of leading researchers. If foreign hiring stays weak, I expect less sharing of ideas across borders.
