Two Major Earthquakes Strike Venezuela in Rapid Succession, Collapsing Buildings

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Venezuela on Wednesday, followed 39 seconds later by a 7.5. The speed gave people no time to escape after the first quake. Buildings collapsed across Caracas and La Guaira. Rescuers found survivors, including three young siblings, in the rubble. Heavy equipment hadn't yet reached most sites. Venezuela's government declared a state of emergency.
