Palace says King Charles will not apologise for slavery on Caribbean tour

Buckingham Palace said on 2 October 2026 that King Charles III will not offer a formal apology for slavery during his 27 October to 4 November tour of the Bahamas, Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda. The Palace called colonial legacy discussions "important" but "primarily matters for governments to address".
