Australia's avian flu barrier breaks

Australia detected H5N1 avian influenza on 20 June 2026 in a dead migratory bird on a remote Western Australian beach. The virus strain, which has ravaged poultry and wild birds globally, reached us via bird migration routes — distance alone couldn't hold it out. The focus now is keeping it away from commercial poultry farms.
