Weis heirs deny Soulages painting was stolen in counterclaim

Heirs of Weis Markets owners have filed a counterclaim denying Pierre Soulages's Peinture 161 x 200 cm, 14 novembre 1958 was stolen. The filing answers a Zeckendorf family suit and rejects 'unfounded and moving-target theories', ARTnews reported 22 September. The work took a US$4 million hammer price at Christie's last November, the bid before fees, totalling US$4.955 million, Artlyst reported.
