Harald V's £1.6 million vessel-shaped olivine sarcophagus

King Harald V's sarcophagus, a stone coffin, cost an estimated 20 million NOK (£1.6 million). Commissioned in 2024, it was designed by Snøhetta and Kjetil Trædal Thorsen. Cut from Sunnmøre olivine, it forms a vessel with rounded bottom and protective hull inspired by his relationship with the sea. It stands in the Royal Mausoleum at Akershus Castle in Oslo.
