Resident Evil reboot tops 2002 film's lifetime gross in opening weekend

Zach Cregger's Resident Evil earned US$108.3 million globally in its opening weekend, the best start for the film series. The total passed the US$102.9 million lifetime gross of the 2002 original. The split was US$60 million in the US and US$48.3 million internationally.
