AI Staff at Top Labs Brush Off Extinction Fears

Employees at OpenAI, Meta and DeepMind told the BBC in a Sept. 19 report they doubt unchecked AI growth will produce weapons that kill large numbers of people. Some answered extinction warnings with “Lol,” “Haaaaaa” and “Bringing the luls.” All spoke anonymously. Disagreement among insiders clouds when limits are needed.
