Resident Evil reboot heads for record $55M domestic opening

Sony's Resident Evil reboot is expected to earn around $55 million domestically, the United States and Canada, in its opening weekend to 20 September, Sony reported via Variety, a studio estimate until Monday's actuals. That would be the franchise's largest debut, Variety reported, ahead of 2010's Afterlife, which opened to $26 million domestically, Variety reported.
