Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Chairman After 50+ Years

Warren E. Buffett stepped down as Berkshire Hathaway chairman on September 18, 2026, in Omaha, after more than 50 years, Berkshire said. He becomes Chairman Emeritus — an honorary title — and stays as a director. Greg Abel took over as CEO in late 2025. In my view, this is continuity, keeping his experience on the board.
