Phil Gore has thigh surgery after 1,000km solo run
Australian ultrarunner Phil Gore needed surgery after his 1,000km solo backyard ultra — one 6.7km lap every hour. Surgeons at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth made a 12cm incision and drained about 500ml of pus from his left thigh. What seemed a haematoma was infection. Pain started at lap 104; the 40-year-old ran on for two days to 152 laps.
