US Justice Department backs $1.88 billion bond demand over Paramount-Warner Bros merger

Variety reported the U.S. Department of Justice filed a 'statement of interest' on 15 September backing Paramount's bid for 12 states to post a 'proper bond' of $1.88 billion. The filing says the department approved the Warner Bros. merger in June and, as a non-party, views the states as 'private persons' enforcing federal antitrust law.
