Bangladesh Sentences Seven Hasina Aides to Death in Absentia
Seven Awami League allies of ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were sentenced to death on September 15, 2026. A Dhaka tribunal convicted them of crimes against humanity — murder and ordering killings in the 2024 uprising crackdown. They include ex-minister Mohammad Ali Arafat and general-secretary Obaidul Quader. None were in court, so were tried in absentia.
