Celtic confirmed on 15 September 2026 that Danny McGrain, 76, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The family made the news public through the club so fans would be aware, with wife Laraine speaking about the decision. McGrain played 663 games for Celtic and 62 times for Scotland. Celtic described him as "Scotland's greatest-ever full-back".
