Europa League kicks off on Wednesday, a day early

The 2026-27 Europa League league phase kicks off on Wednesday 16 September. Nine of the 18 Matchweek 1 ties are on Wednesday, with the other nine on Thursday. Europa League ties are usually played on Thursday. UEFA lists the phase as running to 28 January 2027.
