Norway's Crown Princess Added to Lung Transplant List as Fibrosis Advances

Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been placed on a lung transplant waiting list as her pulmonary fibrosis—a progressive scarring condition she disclosed in 2018—has worsened despite medication. The Royal House confirmed the deterioration in June 2026. Transplantation is the only intervention that extends survival when fibrosis becomes severe. Bilateral lung transplants have improved outcomes; median survival at major centers spans five to six years.
