South Sea Company ordered crown brand heated for enslaved people's shoulders

Lancaster University historian Nicholas Radburn found the order in South Sea Company archives. The crown-backed company, which trafficked thousands to plantations in the 1700s, sent Buenos Aires agents a small silver crown to heat red hot for enslaved people's left shoulders. A spokesperson for King Charles III said he was 'grateful to all those undertaking academic work in this area'.
