Joe Root captained England to a 3-0 series win over Pakistan yet was listed as 'Down' in The Guardian's 14 September season review. He fell lbw — leg-before-wicket, out blocking a ball hitting the stumps — eight times in 11 innings in the home summer. His high score was 77 and he averaged 33.5, down from 55.52 at home.
