The Shards invents Trawler killer to avoid depicting real victims

According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX's The Shards centres on the Trawler, an invented killer murdering young people in 1981 Los Angeles. Producers created him rather than depict the Night Stalker to avoid involving real victims, the report says. Victims differ from the real L.A. case, and the killer is never identified in book or show, the report says.
