Natural Defenses Can't Stop Great Barrier Reef's Annual Bleaching Cycle

New modeling from Tulane University shows the Great Barrier Reef will bleach nearly every year despite natural protections like cloud cover and cool ocean currents. These buffers, once thought to provide relief, can't keep pace with warming rates. Without recovery time between bleaching events, coral mortality accumulates toward the threshold where reef structures collapse irreversibly.
