Bruce Davis, longest-serving Academy chief executive, dies at 83

Bruce Davis, who ran the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences longer than anyone in its history, died on 5 September 2026 in Los Angeles at 83 from leukemia, his wife Joann confirmed. Davis served as chief executive from 1989 to 2011, presiding over membership expansions and the Oscars' growth into a globally televised event.
