After Giuliani banned photography at Ground Zero, the US State Department sent the resulting images to 200 cities

New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani banned photography at Ground Zero after 11 September 2001. Joel Meyerowitz, 88, defied the ban, talked his way in and spent nine months photographing the cleanup — the only photographer with unrestricted access. The US Department of State later sent the resulting "Aftermath" images to over 200 cities in 60 countries. Twenty-eight are now on view at the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale through 14 February 2027.
