Painter Lucien Smith dies in New York at 37

Lucien Smith, whose fire-extinguisher Rain Paintings made him a fixture of New York's early-2010s art boom, died on 7 September in New York at 37. Born in Los Angeles in 1989 and raised in New York, he graduated from Cooper Union in 2011. A cause of death was not immediately known, Artnet News reported. Skarstedt Gallery, which represented him, confirmed his death.
