Russian Dissident Artist Killed in Poland
Semyon Skrepetsky, a Russian artist whose satirical work criticizing Vladimir Putin earned him a following among dissidents, was shot dead in a parking lot in Biala Podlaska, eastern Poland, on June 16, 2026. Polish authorities have not identified motive or suspects. The death extends a troubling pattern: Russian dissidents who fled to the EU have been dying violently in recent years.
