AfD's Saxony-Anhalt election bid pledges loyalty oath for arts funding, targets Bauhaus

The far-right AfD, polling at 41% ahead of Saxony-Anhalt's 6 September 2026 Landtag election, has pledged to require arts-funding recipients to declare commitment to "German national culture." AfD deputy chairman Hans-Thomas Tillschneider told The Art Newspaper that recipients would have to say: "I am for Germany, I am not against Germany." A June 2026 Landtag motion was defeated. The party has drawn the Bauhaus movement into its rhetoric.
