Garden terrace dig in Rebild uncovers Denmark's largest Viking Age silver hoard

A man digging a terrace in Rebild, northern Denmark, uncovered nearly 18.5 kg of 10th-century Viking silver — about 700 objects including bars, bracelets, coins and a Thor's hammer — the North Jutland Museums announced on 3 September 2026. The hoard is roughly three times heavier than the previous record-holder, the Terslev Hoard (6.5 kg). The museum plans to exhibit it at Fyrkat.
