ReactOS Runs Half-Life with GPU Acceleration, Signaling Maturity
ReactOS, a Windows NT reimplementation built from scratch via reverse engineering, has run the Direct3D version of Half-Life with GPU acceleration on actual hardware. The achievement matters because 3D graphics expose compatibility gaps that virtual machines mask—they require correct driver behavior, memory management, and interrupt handling. Still in alpha, ReactOS has demonstrated its hardware layer and driver stack are ready for real-world demands.
