Republican Groups Spent Millions Aiding Socialist Candidate in Wisconsin Primary

National Republican groups spent millions on ads boosting Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist running for Wisconsin governor, in the August 11, 2026 Democratic primary. The spending was seen as an effort to help nominate a Democrat Republicans consider easier to beat in November. Hong led in polls for much of the race.
