Iran's New Demands Stall Oman-Mediated Hormuz Deal

Iran demanded on August 10 that the US pay compensation and permanently end its maritime blockade before reopening the Strait of Hormuz, per IRNA and Reuters. The conditions stall an Omani-brokered deal that seemed near on August 5. The strait, shut since February 28, carries about a fifth of global oil liquids demand. Futures jumped over $3 a barrel on August 7.
