Liverpool sign Araujo on loan from Barcelona as defensive shortage bites

Liverpool have signed Uruguay defender Ronald Araujo, 25, on a season-long loan from Barcelona with an option to buy for about £47m. Head coach Andoni Iraola needed cover: Joe Gomez, Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are all injured, and 18-year-old Ifeanyi Ndukwe cannot play competitively as he lacks a UK work permit. Araujo is expected to join the squad this weekend.
