England opener Gay faces fitness race for Pakistan Test after shoulder scare

Emilio Gay retired hurt with a shoulder problem playing for Durham against Middlesex on 7 August. A scan showed no serious damage, but he will undergo further assessment at Beckenham this week and will not play in Pakistan's warm-up fixture. England, already without Stokes (retired) and Bethell (knee), have not called up cover. The first Test starts at Headingley on 19 August.
