Referee barred from World Cup to take charge of PSG–Aston Villa Super Cup

Somali referee Omar Artan was denied entry at Miami airport and barred from the 2026 World Cup under the US travel ban on Somali passport holders. Days later, UEFA appointed the 34-year-old — CAF Men's Referee of the Year in 2025 — to officiate Wednesday's Super Cup between PSG and Aston Villa in Salzburg. He will be the first non-European referee to take charge of the match.
