'Camp Miasma' production team revived optical glass matte technique for its most demanding sequences

Jane Schoenbrun's 'Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma', opened in US theatres on 7 August 2026, used an optical glass matte technique for its most technically demanding sequences, according to Deadline (10 August 2026). The method paints or blocks parts of the frame on glass in front of the camera lens, compositing foreground and background in-camera without digital effects. The build also included flesh-like wall surfaces and theater carpet imported across the border.
