Puerto Rico's pipes waste most of its water before it reaches homes

Puerto Rico's water system loses about 65% of its water to leaky pipes and untracked use. Think of filling a bucket with a giant hole in it. A drought has already forced over 500,000 people into two-day water shutoffs. Rationing can help the Carraízo reservoir recover, but it cannot fix the pipes — which waste more water than they actually deliver.
