
Wildfire Forces 20,000 People to Flee Two B.C. Towns
About 20,000 people in Summerland and Peachland, B.C., were told to leave their homes immediately on August 8, 2026, as a fast-moving wildfire called the Bald Range fire closed in. Officials warned of serious danger to life and sent evacuees to nearby Penticton. Summerland lost power during the evacuation. It is unclear yet whether buildings have burned. The fire is labeled incident K51490 in the 2026 fire year.
