Lebanon Arrests a Former Syrian General — May Send Him Back to Face Justice
Lebanon arrested former Syrian General Adel Issa, 67, after Syrian embassy staff spotted him in Beirut. Issa admitted slipping into Lebanon illegally after Syria's ruler, Bashar al-Assad, fell in December 2024, but said he did nothing wrong. Lebanon is now waiting for Syria to send a formal request to take him back. If Lebanon agrees, it would be the first such transfer since Assad's regime collapsed — a possible first step in holding old regime figures accountable.
