Senate Approves Todd Blanche as Nation's Top Law Enforcement Official

The Senate approved Todd Blanche as attorney general — the nation's top law enforcement official — on August 8, 2026. The vote was 50-49 at 4:17 a.m. All Democrats and two Republicans, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, voted no. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana cast the deciding vote. Blanche, Trump's former personal lawyer, had filled the role temporarily since Pam Bondi left.
