Hutt Hospital's smaller baby care upgrade costs more than the original bigger plan

Hutt Hospital's scaled-back upgrade for newborn care will cost about $950,000 more than the $9.5m agreed in 2020 for a much larger project covering both maternity and newborn care. Health Minister Simeon Brown cut the project back in January after costs tripled to $31m. The maternity ward upgrade was dropped, with no restart date. Treasury called the project "off track" last year.
