EU Approves IRIS², Its Own Satellite Internet Network with 348 Satellites

The European Commission has signed off on IRIS², a satellite internet network built by European agencies and companies. The project has grown to 348 satellites — more than double the 170 planned in 2022. Launches and early service should begin in 2029. The network will carry secure government communications and reduce Europe's reliance on non-European providers.
