SEC Questions Rating Firm, Putting Insurers' Finances in Doubt

The SEC's March 2026 order asks whether Egan-Jones, a firm that grades investments, can properly assess over 3,000 private credit deals and parts of Delaware Life's portfolio. Insurance companies use those grades to calculate the safety cushion regulators require. If the grades are weak, insurers may not know how much cash they must keep on hand.
