One power cut stops trains across three UK regions

A power cut at Manchester's train control centre on 6 August 2026 halted trains across north-west England, the Midlands, and Wales. A backup generator failed to start in time. Seven train companies were hit. Network Rail has spent over a decade merging control into central hubs, so one outage can now halt trains across hundreds of miles.
