Piece of SpaceX Rocket Hits the Moon, Makes Large Crater

A four-ton piece of a SpaceX rocket left over from a January 2025 mission hit the Moon on August 5, 2026, at 5,400 mph. NASA estimates the impact carved a crater 60 feet across and 12 feet deep. A telescope in Chile spotted a brief flash of glowing material. NASA and South Korea plan to photograph the site.
