Nearly 1,500 government-backed first homes turned into rentals

The government's first-home-buyer scheme lets people buy a house with just a 5% deposit. New Housing Australia data reveals 1,486 of those homes — out of 208,000 bought since the 2020 launch — were later turned into rental properties. The figures, released after a Senate question in June, don't show how long owners lived there first.
